NHL : what was the point ?

According to various reports, Capitals general manager George McPhee does not appear very keen to sign Huet to a new contract.

Was Huet that awful in the series against the Flyers ?

Is this the kind of tactical lack of interest to be expected from any manager before a negotiation ?

If McPhee does not intend to sign Huet, what was the point of the trade ?

If he did not want Huet for more than one month and, possibly, subsequent playoffs, which looked very unlikely at the end of February, a second draft choice was indeed a very steep price to pay for the Canadien goalie.
